Some Things To Take Care Of For Excellent Image Scanning
You all want to cherish your special and unforgettable moments by keeping a copy of your photographs. If you want, then this can be done with the help of image scanning. Image scanning allows you to digitize and store your photos. However, the quality of the scans depends upon the features of the scanner and the resolution selected by the user.
Image scanning is basically a process of converting text and graphic paper documents, photographic paper, photographic film or other files into digital images. This conversion is usually from analog to digital.
Scanning of an image is converting a physical image in to a digital image. A digital image consists of thousands of pixels and dots of colors. The resolution of a digital image is measured in dots per inch. Higher resolution images occupy a lot more memory space than ordinary images. So choose the resolution according to the space available on your computer.
Variety of scanners can be employed to scan a particular image. Most scanners connected to computers have the image software program known as Adobe Photoshop installed. But in addition to this there are other image scanning software that can be used along with Photoshop. Let us look at the steps involved in scanning a particular image. * Put the page on the scanner in the right position (usually upper right hand corner). In case the page is that of a book then make sure that it is flat bed.
* Double click on the Adobe Photoshop icon.
* After that choose the import option. At this time the scanner software asks how many colors should the scanned image be in. Normally there are four basic image colors or modes. These are:
* Full color/24 bit color- This indicates a full color image. It will create the largest size of the file. It is more commonly used. * Indexed color/8 bit color- This setting uses 256 colors and results in creation of a smaller image. * Grayscale/8 bit grayscale- It also uses 256 colors white, black and many shades of gray. It is usually used for scanning images of text and black and white photos. * B and W/1 bit black and white- This only uses two colors- white and black You have to select the appropriate color setting for your needs and requirements. Another thing which your scanner software asks is about the resolution of your image. Higher the resolution better will be the image quality. But you should also remember that higher resolution will lead to an increment in the size of the file. Therefore adjust the resolution setting in such a way that the file size does not increase too much and the quality is maintained as well. If you do image scanning keeping the resolution and colour mode of the image in mind, you should be able to get an excellent scan of your documents and your photographs.
